Keith Drury » Founder/ChairmanKeith is originally from Cheshire but has lived in Wrexham for eight years. Prior to this he spent over 10 years in Managing supported housing schemes in Liverpool, Manchester and Yorkshire. After graduating from Chester University with his Bachelor of Theology (Hons) degree, he moved to Wrexham to study social work at Glyndwr University. He graduated with his professional social work qualification in 2002, working in Cheshire and now Wrexham with adults in the community. Recognising there was nothing available in Wrexham for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, he decided to set up the LGBT and Friends Dining Club, which has been meeting at a local Wrexham restaurant on a monthly basis since 2002. In 2006, Keith pioneered the LGBT Wrexham and District which changed its name to the North East Wales LGBT Foundation. With being hard of hearing and through some personal unfortunate experiences, Keith decided to pioneer a support and advisory group in 2005 called DEAF, to support deaf, deafened and hard of hearing council employees in Wrexham. With being gay and hard of hearing, he has experienced discrimination and so has a natural empathy with those who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Amongst his achievements, Keith was rewarded by Wrexham County Borough Council and The National Organisation, Social Workers Award Scheme UK, for his work with disadvantaged groups. In addition he was invited to attend a reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his work in December 2006. Besides being Founder and current Chair of the NE Wales LGBT Foundation, he is Chair for the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Cymru and is also a member of the council for BASW UK.
